Detroit, MI (October 6, 2025) – On Saturday evening, October 4, a hit-and-run crash on Detroit's east side left one person dead and three others injured, authorities confirmed.
Detroit Police reported that officers from the 9th Precinct were called around 6:30 p.m. to the area of Chalmers and Seymour Streets, near Gratiot Avenue and McNichols Road, for a multi-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, responders found a passenger in one of the vehicles with severe injuries. Medics pronounced the individual dead at the scene. Three other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
Witnesses told police that the driver responsible exited one of the vehicles and fled the scene. Investigators believe the suspect was speeding and ran a red traffic signal before colliding with two other vehicles. Authorities continue to search for the suspect and urged anyone with information to call the Detroit Police Department's Fatal Squad at (313) 596-2260 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and also wish a full recovery to those injured.
Compensation in Vehicle Accidents in Michigan
Victims of vehicle accidents in Michigan may be entitled to financial compensation for injuries and losses resulting from a crash. Michigan operates under a no-fault insurance system, which ensures that injured drivers and passengers can receive benefits from their own insurance company regardless of who caused the accident.
Compensation may include:
-
Medical expenses: Vehicle accidents often result in injuries that require immediate and ongoing medical care. Compensation can cover emergency treatment at the scene, ambulance transport, hospital stays, surgeries, diagnostic tests, medications, and physical therapy. It may also include future medical treatment, such as follow-up visits, rehabilitation programs, prosthetics, or specialized care, ensuring that victims receive the care necessary to recover fully without facing overwhelming medical bills.
-
Lost wages: Injuries sustained in a crash can prevent victims from working for days, weeks, or even months. Compensation for lost wages reimburses the income lost during recovery, including time off for hospital stays, rehabilitation, or medical appointments. This helps victims and their families maintain financial stability while focusing on healing and prevents financial hardship caused by the accident.
-
Loss of earning capacity: In some cases, injuries from a crash can have long-term or permanent effects that reduce a person's ability to perform their previous job or limit future earning potential. Compensation for loss of earning capacity addresses the lasting financial impact of these limitations, helping victims plan for their long-term financial needs and protecting them from the economic consequences of their injuries.
-
Property damage: Accidents can cause significant damage to vehicles, personal belongings, or other property. Compensation may cover the cost of repairing or replacing a damaged vehicle, as well as items inside the vehicle that were destroyed or lost. This ensures that victims are not left responsible for the full cost of property repairs or replacement following the crash.
-
Pain and suffering: Beyond tangible financial losses, victims often endure intense physical pain, emotional distress, anxiety, or depression following a crash. Compensation for pain and suffering acknowledges the personal and psychological toll of the accident, helping victims and their families cope with the long-term effects on quality of life, emotional well-being, and day-to-day functioning.
