Detroit, MI (March 2, 2026) – A Metro South trooper was injured on Sunday, March 1, when a Jeep SUV struck his parked patrol car on the northbound Lodge Freeway near Schaefer Highway.
According to the Michigan State Police, the trooper had his emergency lights activated while investigating a prior traffic crash on the right shoulder at approximately 7:50 p.m. The Jeep driver collided with the rear of the patrol vehicle, which was then pushed into the concrete wall on the right shoulder.
After the initial impact, the suspect vehicle crossed all three lanes of traffic and struck the center median wall before the driver exited and fled the scene.
Authorities identified the driver as a 29-year-old woman from Detroit. Troopers are actively attempting to locate and interview her, and the incident is pending further investigation and prosecutor review.
Detroit EMS evaluated the trooper at the scene and cleared him, though he was transported to a local hospital by patrol car as a precaution due to the force of the collision. No additional injuries were reported.
The crash remains under active investigation by the Michigan State Police.
We extend our best wishes to the victim for a full and speedy recovery following the accident.
