Romulus, MI (April 6, 2026) – A Michigan State Police trooper was injured on Monday, April 6, after a suspected intoxicated driver struck a patrol vehicle on westbound Interstate 94 near Merriman Road.

According to authorities, the crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. when the driver of a 2013 Lincoln MKZ lost control and collided with the driver's side of the marked patrol car. The impact then caused a chain reaction involving two additional vehicles before the Lincoln came to rest in the middle lanes of traffic.

Police said the trooper was inside the vehicle with emergency and patrol lights activated at the time of the crash. Romulus fire crews worked to remove her from the vehicle before transporting her to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 32-year-old driver of the Lincoln reportedly showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody before being transported for a blood draw.
